Government Rebates
This information covers the eligibility requirements for all Federal and State Government rebates as well as RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates)
1. Renewable Energy Certificates
A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) represents a unit of electricity generated from renewable energy source with low green house emissions. One REC represents one megawatt-hour produced from renewable energy technology.
REC's are attracted by environmentally friendly systems such as Solar and Heat Pumps. These REC's are created under the Federal Government Mandatory Renewable Energy Act which is designed to encourage the uptake of renewable energy.
The RECs for each unit installed is determined on the amount of green house gas emissions saved, contact us today to find out how much REC's your heat pump or solar system will attract.
2. Federal Government Rebate
Eligible
To be eligible for the rebate, a new heat pump or solar installation must:
- Replace an existing electric storage hot water system
- Be purchased and installed on, or after 18th July 2007
- Be a solar or heat pump water system that is eligible for at least 20 RECs at the time and place of installation
- Be installed by a suitably qualified person
- The dwelling where the host water system is installed must be the principle place of residence.
How much is the rebate ?
Currently the Federal rebate is set at $1600.00
3.NSW State Government Rebates
The NSW Government offers between $300 and $1200, depending on the size and type of five star solar or heat pump hot water system installed when replacing an existing electric hot water system. For you home to be eligible you must :
- Replace and electric storage hot water system
- Applies to residential dwellings in NSW only
- Applies to solar and heat pump hot water systems with a minimum of 20 RECs
- Be installed by a licensed plumber
- Must be purchased and installed between October 1, 2007 and June 30, 2011.
- New homes and major renovations are not eligible for this rebate
How much is the rebate ?
- $300.00 for a Gas Hot Water System with a 5 star or higher energy rating
- Up to $1200.00 for a Solar or Heat Pump hot water system eligible for at least 20 RECs under the mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET)
- Rebate for the solar and heat pump hot water systems is based on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved, determined by the eligibility of your system for Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
